I don't want to start a debate between theists and atheists, I believe in a God myself.
But I was watching a debate on biblical inerrancy this weekend, and I found out that Christian apologetics are for the most part, made up excuses that can not be verified by the Christian.
The approach is, make up a way where the second person could have looked at it differently.
So most Christian apologetics are not based upon facts, but mere created possibilities.
Example, I read a debate thread this weekend over biblical perfection, and the agonistic presented this biblical contradiction,
Example,
The sons of David born in Hebron 2 Samuel 3:2-5
Annon
Chileab
Absalom
Adonijah
Shephatiah
Ithream
1 Chronicles 3:1-4
Annon
Daniel
Absalom
Adonijah
Shephatiah
Ithream
The apologetic which appeared to be suddenly made up,
"David's sons:
Why couldn't David's son have had two names? You know, like how Jesus' discple was called Simon and Peter?"
Example 2,
Where did Jesus cure the blind man? In Bethsaida or Outside the temple
Mark 8:22-25
And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him. And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought. And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking. After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.
John 8:59 - 9:1-6
Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by. And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth. ... When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.
Christian apologetic,
"Where Jesus healed:
Notice that in Mark, Jesus spits on the man's eyes, but in John, Jesus spits on the ground. Could they not be two separate cases? "
I could not find that answer on any Christian site, it appeared it was suddenly made up.
That thread, http://www.theologyweb.com/campus/showthread.php?t=128346&page=20
that was on a Christian site, I thought was won by the agnostic, proving bible errancy, because apologetics it appears were largely based on the creative guesses (are not fact) by the bible believer.
They feel as long as a possibility is created, despite how remote, the contradiction is solved.
Again I like to stress I am a believer, but it appears that apologetics are believed only by fanatics who wish to believe them.
I would have liked to seen their response to this article, (John 12:34)
"Well first of all it shows that Jesus and those in his generation, did not know the first thing about what happens to seeds when they are planted! Apparently they thought that when you plant a seed it dies and then "springs to life" in some sort of "resurrection" event thereby producing bountiful harvests. That is not what happens to seeds when they are planted"
Bottom line, God should have known better.
